Mahal Ittar

$45.00
Description

In the historic town of Kannauj, where fragrance is memory and craft is devotion, a centuries-old art still lives and breathes. This is not merely the perfume capital of India—it is the sacred archive of scent, where each attar is a living relic of ancient wisdom.

At the heart of this tradition is the deg-bhapka technique; a meticulous, time-honored method of steam distillation perfected over a thousand years. Using copper vessels (deg) and receivers (bhapka), master distillers coax delicate oils from petals, herbs, and resins, capturing the purest essence of nature without alcohol or additives. The process unfolds slowly, reverently, under the guidance of artisans whose knowledge is passed orally from one generation to the next, like a sacred mantra.

In Kannauj, every attar is a prayer, and deg-bhapka is the altar.

At Mahal's heart lies a warm, earthy Patchouli. It rests on a sacred bed of lotus and sandalwood—ingredients once offered in temples and palaces, now reborn for the skin.

This fragrance doesn’t just wear-it inhabits. It is a palace in scent: monumental yet open, timeless yet intimate.

Where are your fragrances manufactured? All our fragrances are handcrafted in India, using time-honored artisanal methods.

How long will a fragrance last? The ittars typically last an entire day. Because they are pure, alcohol-free oils, the scent evolves with your skin’s natural warmth — unfolding in layers of beautiful notes as the day goes on.

How are they made?  The fragrances are produced through hydrodistillation using the Deg Bhapka apparatus, where raw botanicals are carefully distilled in pure sandalwood oil. This traditional method ensures controlled heat transfer, allowing the aromatic molecules to be released gradually without degradation. The sandalwood acts as a natural fixative, capturing and preserving the volatile compounds for maximum stability, depth, and longevity of the fragrance.
